The Dutch news organisation NOS featured a short interview of Dr Simon McMahon on their website 19th August. The article discusses the redistribution of refugees in the EU and how the measures of separating political refugees from economic migrants for redistribution across EU Member States are failing.
Simon explains the purpose of the Hotspot program is to “identify who people are and when they launch their asylum claim, if they are from countries with a 75% acceptance rates of asylum applications, they will be relocated to other parts of the European Union”. This means some 3,000 people are being relocated at the moment, reflecting the failure of the system.
The article is in Dutch and can be read in full here. Simon’s interview, which is included in the first video on the website, is in English.
